Add parent and child nodes in a hierarchy

Learn how to add parent and child nodes in a hierarchy so that you can expand an existing hierarchy structure from the Hierarchy tab.

Prerequisites:

You must have the ROLE_API or MDM.Data.Hr permission (for custom roles) assigned to you
You must enable hierarchy in the tenant configuration. For more information, see Configure tenant business settings for hierarchy.
You must enable hierarchy in the UI configuration. For more information, see Configure UI settings for the Hierarchy tab.
You must create a hierarchy for a profile. For more information, see Add a hierarchy in the Profile view.

Note: This feature is currently available only in AWS environments. Support for GCP and Azure will be available in a future release.

Connect another profile to an existing hierarchy as a parent or child node.

To add a parent or child node

In the Hub, select the profile you want to view.
In the Profile view, select the Hierarchy tab.
In the Hierarchy type list, select the hierarchy you want to update.
In the hierarchy tree, find the node that you want to update and hover over it to view available actions.
1. To add a parent node, select the Add parent icon.
2. In the Select parent field, profile that you want to add as the parent node. The selected profile is added as a parent to the node.
3. To add a child node, select the Add child icon.
4. In the Select child field, select the required profile. The selected profile is added as a child to the node.

Result

The selected profiles are added to the hierarchy in the position you specified. Repeat this task to continue building the hierarchy structure.
