Configure grouping types

Learn how to create, view, edit, and delete household grouping types.

Use the grouping service to create new business data right in the Reltio platform based on your business requirements. Grouping allows you to create an entity type and associate the group to a common entity type. For example, building household data from the individual records.

For example, group all people who belong to a single household - the Smith family - in the same grouping type. When you create a grouping type, all household members that have the same last name and same address are grouped together. Carry out this configuration using the Data Modeler UI or standard L3 configuration API. For more information, see topic Configuration API.

Once you’ve decided what and how many entities you need to create a grouping type, get started with creating the grouping type. After you’ve finished creating the grouping type, you can view the grouping type values, update some of the grouping type values, or delete the grouping type.

To configure a grouping type for an entity:
  1. Provide the grouping name and grouping entity type for the entity.

  2. Select the entity type you want to group, an automatic grouping rule that helps you find the members that need to be grouped, and the relationship the entity has with the grouping type.
  3. Configure a match rule for the member entity type. Any member entities that are a match get a grouping entity created for them and they are all then related to the entity. You can also map default attribute values from the member entity type to the grouping entity.

  4. Review and save your configuration.

  5. Run the Rebuild Match Table Task to find the matched entity pairs based on the rule. Household data is now populated from the member entity to the grouping entity. All members of the household get a household record and are all associated with the grouping entity. Every time there is a change to the attributes of a member in the household, the grouping service finds a new household for the member entity.
Note: If you create two members that match a rule, a grouping entity is automatically created with the members grouped together. If you now edit one of the members and it no longer matches the rule, the group is deleted since it has only one member.
