Unstructured extraction overview
Learn about Unstructured extraction and how it extracts and maps information from documents to Reltio data.
Unstructured extraction is a capability in Unstructured augmentation that converts information from documents into structured Reltio data. It extracts entities, attributes, and relationships, maps them to your tenant data model, and lets you review the results before using them in downstream processes.
The following roles use Unstructured extraction:
For role definitions, see About roles.
How Unstructured extraction works
Unstructured extraction processes PDF, DOC, DOCX, PPTX, HTML, RTF, TXT, JPEG, and PNG files. It analyzes a document and extracts information identified by an extraction template or by the One time upload workflow. It maps the extracted information to Reltio entities, attributes, and relationships.
You can review the source document, extracted JSON, and field mappings before using the output in Reltio. This review helps you identify incorrect or incomplete values and correct their mappings before the information is published according to the selected workflow.
OCR Support
Unstructured extraction uses optical character recognition (OCR) to extract text from scanned, handwritten, image-based, PDFs and from JPEG and PNG image files.
During extraction-template creation, Unstructured extraction analyzes the uploaded sample document and recommends OCR when the document contains scanned text or images.
You can accept the recommendation or override it by turning the Use OCR for scanned/handwritten documents toggle toggle on or off when you upload the sample document. Unstructured extraction saves the selected OCR setting with the extraction template and applies it when automated pipelines process documents with that template.
Unstructured extraction workflows
Unstructured extraction supports the following workflows:
-
One time upload: Upload and process a single document without first creating an extraction template or pipeline. Unstructured extraction extracts its information and maps it to the selected Reltio tenant.
-
Automated bulk extraction: Use a published extraction template, configured document source, and pipeline to process multiple documents manually or on a schedule.
For more information, see Unstructured augmentation workflow.
When to use Unstructured extraction
Use Unstructured extraction when information stored in documents needs to become structured Reltio data. Common uses include:
-
Processing contracts and agreements.
-
Extracting information from onboarding forms.
-
Processing invoices and financial documents.
-
Extracting information from compliance and regulatory records.
