Set up Google Drive access for Unstructured augmentation

Learn how to prepare Google Drive as a document source for Unstructured augmentation.

Set up Google Drive for Unstructured augmentation by enabling the Google Drive API, creating a service account and JSON key, and granting the service account read access to the folder or Shared Drive that contains the documents. After completing this task, add Google Drive as a document source in Unstructured augmentation.

The following roles can prepare Google Drive for Unstructured augmentation:

For role definitions, see About roles.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, confirm the following requirements:

  • You must have access to the Google Cloud Console.

  • You must have permission to enable APIs and create service accounts and keys in a Google Cloud project.

  • You must have permission to share the Google Drive folder or Shared Drive that contains the documents.

  • You must have ROLE_AFU_SOURCE_MANAGER or ROLE_ADMIN_AFU in the Reltio tenant that has Unstructured augmentation enabled.

To enable the Google Drive API and create a service account with a JSON key
  1. Sign in to the Google Cloud Console.
  2. Select an existing Google Cloud project or create one.
  3. Go to APIs & Services > Library.
  4. Search for Google Drive API, and then select Enable.
  5. Go to IAM & Admin > Service Accounts.
  6. Select Create service account.
  7. Enter a service account name, and then select Create and continue.
  8. Skip the optional roles, select Continue, and then select Done.
  9. Open the service account and copy its email address.
  10. Open the Keys tab.
  11. Select Add key > Create new key.
  12. Select JSON, and then select Create.

A JSON key file downloads to your computer.

Note: Store the JSON key in a secure location. The key provides access to the service account and must not be shared through email or chat.
To grant the service account access in Google Drive
  1. In Google Drive, locate the folder or Shared Drive that contains the documents, and then use one of the following methods:
    1. For a folder in My Drive, right-click the folder and select Share.
    2. For a Shared Drive, open it and select Manage members from the drive name menu.
  2. Enter the service account email address that you copied in the .earlier step
  3. Assign the Viewer role.

The Viewer role allows the service account to read documents without editing, moving, or deleting them.

  4. Select Send.

Result

The Google Drive API is enabled, the service account key is available, and the service account can read documents from the shared folder or Shared Drive. To add Google Drive as a document source, see Configure document sources for Unstructured augmentation.

Verification steps

To confirm that Google Drive is ready for Unstructured augmentation, perform the following steps:

  1. In the Google Cloud Console, confirm that the Google Drive API is enabled.

  2. In the Keys tab of the service account, confirm that the service account has an active JSON key.

  3. In Google Drive, confirm that the service account is listed as a Viewer for the folder or Shared Drive.
