Move or copy hierarchy nodes

Learn how to move or copy hierarchy nodes so that you can reorganize an existing hierarchy or reuse a branch in another hierarchy.

Relocate a node from one place in the hierarchy to another or reuse the same node in more than one place in the hierarchy. In this workflow, selecting a node also includes all of its descendant nodes.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you meet the following requirements:

You must have the ROLE_API or MDM.Data.Hr permission (for custom roles) assigned to you
You must enable hierarchy in the tenant configuration. For more information, see Configure tenant business settings for hierarchy.
You must enable hierarchy in the UI configuration. For more information, see Configure UI settings for the Hierarchy tab.
You must create a hierarchy structure for a profile. For more information, see Add a hierarchy in the Profile view.

To copy or move hierarchy nodes

In the Hub, select the profile you want to view.
In the Profile view, select the Hierarchy tab.
In the Hierarchy type list, select the hierarchy you want to update.
1. In the hierarchy tree, find the node that you want to move.
2. Hover over the node to view additional options and select the Move or Copy option.
3. Select the node that you want to move or copy.
4. Select Move to move the node to another location in the hierarchy. Select Copy to copy the node and paste it in another location.
5. Select the new location for the node. When a valid target is available, the hierarchy shows a placement option such as PASTE AS CHILD.
6. Select PASTE AS CHILD to move/copy the node to the location.

To move a hierarchy node using drag and drop

In Hub, select the profile you want to view.
In the Profile view, select the Hierarchy tab.
In the Hierarchy type list, select the hierarchy that contains the node you want to move.
In the displayed hierarchy tree, locate the node you want to move.
Select and hold the grab icon. Drag the node to the new location and drop it. The node and all its descendant nodes move to the selected location.
Note: Drop targets are limited to valid move destinations. For example, you cannot drop a node under its current parent.

Result

The selected node and its descendant nodes appear in the new location. The previous parent's sibling order is recalculated automatically.
