Learn more about the Address Cleanser through frequently asked questions and answers.

Why is this address being changed to "General Delivery" in addressLine1?

General Delivery is a mail service for those without a permanent address, often used as a temporary mailing address. For more information, see the USPS FAQs.

Why isn’t Loqate automatically fixing mistakes in my address input?

The cleanser isn’t a data cleanser per se but an address verification tool.

How does Loqate determine the output formatting?

Loqate parses the address block into individual fields based on the standards of the respective country, specifically the postal carrier standards. For more details, see the output formats for every region at Loqate Address Formats.

Why isn’t junk data being removed?

While it is called a cleanser, it is primarily an address verification tool. Some identifiable junk might be removed, but other junk data may not be recognized by the engine.

What is CASS? Why should I use it?

CASS (Coding Accuracy Support System) is a USPS certification program that evaluates the accuracy of address validation software. It’s useful for verifying deliverable addresses for shipping within the US.

Is there a way to stop a location from automatically cleansing for a single entity?

No, there is no out-of-the-box solution for this.

Why is the cleanser changing the address?

The Address Cleanser tries to match your input data to reference data. It’s not an address formatting tool, so the output data may differ from the input.

What is the minimum amount of input information needed by the cleanser?

It depends on your processes, but generally, the more data you provide, the better.

How does the cleanser work, and how does it provide a response?

The cleanser parses the input into respective parts and compares it to the reference data to find a match.

What geocoding scheme does Loqate use for Latitude and Longitude?

Loqate uses the WGS84 geocoding scheme. For more details, see Loqate Geocode Fields.

Why is the cleanser not returning values for some addresses?

Ensure the returnDataByStatus option is added to the cleanse configuration in the physical configuration. For more details, see Address Cleansing Properties.

How can we cleanse international addresses?

To cleanse international addresses, your team must be licensed for countries outside the US and its territories.

Why doesn’t the cleanser verify an address even when it shows as valid on Google?

Google Maps is a navigation tool, not an address verification tool. While it may list an address, it doesn’t guarantee that it’s a valid mailing address.

Why does the cleanser move the unit to addressLine1 from line2?

The cleanser formats the address according to the national postal carrier's expectations for the country. See Loqate Address Formats for output formats.

What is Loqate, and how does it work with Reltio?

Loqate is Reltio’s Address Cleanser service provider. A copy of the Loqate service is installed on Reltio’s servers for use on the platform.
