Define entity types and attributes

You can use the Entity types option in the left pane to manage entity types and their attributes.

An Entity Type is a class of entity, whereas an entity is a specific instance of an entity type. For example, Individual is a Reltio Connected Cloud entity type, whereas Jim is an entity (or instance) of type Individual. To learn more about entity types, see What is an Entity Type?.

Attributes are defined as a collection in the entityTypes section of the configuration file. Data Modeler allows you to create and modify entity types as well as create new attributes by providing appropriate user interface to do so. To learn about an alternate way of configuring attributes, see Configuring Attributes.

Relationships are links between entities, such as HCOs affiliated with an HCP. To learn more about Relationships, see the What is a relationship? topic.

The Data Modeler home page shows the entities that are available for the selected tenant.

In the Entity types page, each row summarizes the entity attributes, roles, and rules. An Inherited badge appears if the entity was inherited from a lower level of the hierarchy. The A icon refers to an abstract entity. Click the Information icon (I) in an active row to view the Information and Validation details.

If an entity is inherited, the Info panel shows information about the hierarchy.

On the Entity types page, you can use the Sort and Filter icon () to sort the entity types in the order of Entity Types, No. of Attributes, Roles, or Rules. You can choose from any of the options listed in the Sort and Filter dialog box.

You can choose to view only the non-abstract entities or all the entities by using the appropriate option from the Filter By section in the Sort and Filter dialog box. By default, only the non-abstract entities are displayed.

Click an entity type to view information about its attributes, match rules, relationships, or roles. The Entity type's details page appears.

You can use the horizontal tabs ATTRIBUTES, MATCH RULES, RELATIONSHIP TYPES, or, ROLES to view the attributes, roles, relationship types or match rules related to the selected entity type.

In the Attributes section, you can create new attributes, besides filtering on the Required and Hidden properties, if needed. You can choose to view only the non-required attributes or all the attributes (irrespective of their required/non-required status). Similarly, you can choose to view the non-hidden attributes only or all the attributes (irrespective of their hidden/non-hidden status).

Tip: If an attribute is nested, you can click the hierarchy widget to reveal the nested attributes.

Click Match Rules to see the match rules associated with the selected entity type.

You can analyze match rules, if needed or click on a match rule to expand it.

Click Relationship Types to see the relationship types associated with the selected entity type. You can create a new relationship type or modify an existing relationship, if needed.

To create a new relationship type, click the Create New button on the Relationship Types section. The Create new relationship type page appears. For more information, see Creating New Relationship Types.

To modify an existing relationship type associated with the selected entity type, click the edit icon (pen) that appears on hovering over the relationship.

The Edit relationship type page appears. For more information, see the Editing a relationship section in Creating New Relationship Types topic.

Click Roles to see all the roles associated with the active entity.
