Profile overview

What is an entity? An entity can be a person, organization, place, object, or thing that is an element of your organization. In the Reltio platform, entities are managed using Profiles. A profile can be defined as a collection of data associated with an entity. You can view all the relationships, interactions, hierarchies, and other such details associated with an entity.

Is an entity and a profile the same?

A Reltio profile and a Reltio entity are subtly different, even though we tend to use the words interchangeably. An entity is a record; it has attributes (simple, nested and reference) and is treated as a node in the Reltio graph. A profile is a broader concept and refers to not only the entity of interest but all of the entities (nodes) connected directly to the entity via relationships, and all of the entity’s interaction data. So then a profile is really the 360 degree expression of an entity.

Attribute types

An attribute can be any value that characterizes or defines the entity. For example, the name or date of birth of an employee in your organization. Attributes can be simple, nested (has sub-attributes), or referenced (references other attributes). To give an example, in a profile, the entity name is a simple attribute, the phone number is a nested attribute, and address (that references locations to be used as address) is a reference attribute.

The Profile perspective enables you to view related details about an entity. When you open the Profile view, you will see the entity details in facets, based on your configuration in UI Modeler. From within Hub too, you can personalize your profile view by moving around the facets or increasing the size of your facets. For example, let us say that you want the Potential Matches to be at the top of your profile and move the Hierarchy details below. You can do this by moving the facets around.

You don’t need to do this every time you open a Profile perspective. Once you have personalized your profile view, preferences are saved and the same layout is displayed the next time you log into your profile.

You can use UI Modeler to configure the layout of this view. You have the option to configure a different layout for each entity type defined. For more information about how to configure your profile page, see
