Localizing Lookup Type Values in RDM

Reference Data Management (RDM) lets you provide translated versions of canonical lookup values so users see lookups in their preferred language.

Localized values are translated versions of a canonical value in a Reference Data Management (RDM) lookup type. The canonical value stays the same across your systems, while the localized value determines what a user sees in their preferred language. Adding localized values lets translated reference data appear in supported languages in consuming applications, without changing the underlying data your systems already rely on.

The following roles can localize lookup type values in RDM:

Prerequisites

Before you localize lookup values, make sure you have:

access to the RDM application and the ROLE_RDM_EDIT permissions.
the lookup type name and lookup type code you want to use.
the canonical values, source values, and localized values you want to add.

To add localized values to a lookup type

Sign in to the RDM application and open Lookup Types from the left navigation panel.
Select the lookup type you want to localize, or select + LOOKUP TYPE to create new lookups. The New lookup type dialog appears.
Enter values in Lookup type name and Lookup type code, and then select DONE.
1. Select + CANONICAL VALUE ROW to add a canonical value row if the canonical value you want to localize doesn't exist yet.
2. Add source values, such as Reltio or Salesforce, in the available source column for the canonical value. You can add sources to a new or existing canonical value row.
3. Select the + icon in the column header area to add the source column.
Select the LOCALIZATION tab.
1. Select EDITING in the mode list in the upper-right corner to add or update localized values.
2. Select the language that you want to use to display the Canonical value .
3. Enter the translation of the canonical value in the selected language. For example, for the canonical value French, enter Français when the language is fr-FR, or enter 法语 when the language is zh-CN.
Select SAVE .

Result

If you created a new lookup type, it appears in Lookup Types. The Localization page displays the localized values you added, whether you created a new canonical value or localized an existing one. These localized values are available in RDM, where you can view the translated information in the selected language.

Verification steps

In RDM, add and save a translation for the canonical value on the LOCALIZATION tab in the language you want to verify. Change the browser language to the same language, open the relevant profile in MDM, and confirm that the translated value appears in the dropdown list.
