Configure FERN Modes

Learn how to select one or more FERN modes in the AI-powered table.

Prerequisites:

You must have ROLE_ADMIN_TENANT Access permissions.
You must have a custom role with MDM:config.businessModel UPDATE permission and CatalogService with READ permission.
Note: If the custom role assigned to the user does not include CatalogService with READ permission, the system cannot retrieve the pretrained model information required to configure FERN modes.

Configure the FERN modes in the Console’s Match tab, within the AI-powered table of pretrained FERN models.

Open Console ► Data Modeler ► Entity types, then choose an entity type.
Select the Match tab.
In the AI-powered table, locate the row labeled Pretrained FERN for <Entity type> with the highest version.
In the FERN mode drop-down list, pick the mode:
- FERN enhanced discovery: This mode enhances match discovery by identifying relevant match pairs that may have been missed by your existing matching methods.
- FERN for data steward: Designed to support data stewardship workflows, this mode evaluates existing potential matches and assigns a FERN score to help prioritize review and resolution.
- FERN Full Mode: Combines both Data Steward and Enhanced Discovery modes, allowing you to evaluate existing matches while also uncovering new potential matches — all in a single, comprehensive run.
Attention: If you leave the FERN mode field blank, the FERN model will be disabled for this entity type.

Tip: First-time tenants see the default FERN for data steward pre-selected with Internal + External scopes.
(Optional) Click the row to fine-tune threshold or attribute mappings.
Select Save.

The chosen mode or modes activate immediately.
