Search by Operational Value Only
You can limit an attribute search to its Operational Values only.
It is important to review the information model surrounding attributes and values before we discuss how to Search by Operational Values (OVs). For a general background on Reltio Attributes, see topic Reltio attribute types .
An attribute acts like a container of values contributed from one or more sources. The survivorship rule chosen for an attribute may cause one or more values to be considered as an Operational Value (OV) of this attribute. for example, the Aggregation rule applied to an attribute causes all of the attribute's unique values to be designated as the OV.
Reltio Platform uses an attribute's Operational Values to:
- generate the visualizations on the Dashboard (bubble charts, bar charts, and heat map)
- populate the type-ahead search interfaces (the search boxes at the top of every Reltio Cloud screen)
- represent the attribute in a drop-down list
- represent reference attributes
- choose profile pages linked to by reference attributes
- assemble the entity's Golden Record
You cannot change this behavior.
Operational Values in the Search function
When searching for data in a tenant, you may want to search all values in an attribute or just the Operational Values (OVs) chosen by the Survivorship Rules.
By default, your tenant is configured to use the Search All Values mode for any search conducted by a user. If you want to provide your users the option to Search by Operational Value only, raise a Reltio Support request with the subject line For my tenant <tenant ID>, enable the feature “Search by Operational Value only. The behavior of these two modes is described below.
Search All Values mode
This section describes the Search All Values behavior, which is the default mode for your tenant.
Consider the entity, Mitchell Burgin, shown below.
The First Name attribute contains the values "Mitch", "Mitchel", and "Mitchell", but you can see that the tenant's survivorship rules have chosen "Mitchell" as the OV. This record will be found if any of the values "Mitch", "Mitchel", or "Mitchell" are submitted as the search term because all values within the attribute are considered.
Search by Operational Value Only mode
This section describes the Search by Operational Value Only mode you can have Reltio Support configure in your tenant.
In this mode of configuration, , you now have the option to search all values as described earlier, or to search by Operational Value only. In the default mode, the experience is to search by Operational Value only. This means that searching for “Mitch” or “Mitchel” will not produce the record for Mitchell Burgin. Only a search for “Mitchell” would produce the record. If you wish to widen your search and have the experience and results described in the previous section, then you must disable the setting “Search by operational value” temporarily. To do this, click the Advanced Search tab. The Advanced Search Screen displays a checkbox called, "Search by operational value only" which contains a check mark. Reset the checkbox and press the blue Search button. As a result, in the search screen a new criterion, “search by all values” appears, as shown here.
This directs the search index to consider all the values within the attributes, which in the example, which includes “Mitch” and/or “Mitchel”.
