Accelerate the Value of Data

Sources Perspective (classic)

Learn how to manage data sources by using the Sources perspective.

You can examine and manage the data sources used to determine the records responsible for determining the Operational Values for Profile attributes. The Sources perspective for a Profile view provides the source data and associated crosswalk information.

Reltio applies auto-ignore for non-Reltio crosswalks when updating attribute values in the Profile UI as per the following conditions:
  • Case 1:

When a user updates a value from the Reltio crosswalk and non-Reltio crosswalk, in this case, attribute value is updated for the Reltio crosswalk and attribute value from the non-Reltio crosswalks is ignored.

  • Case 2:

When a user updates a value from a non-Reltio crosswalk, in this case, attribute value is inserted with the Reltio crosswalk and attribute value from the non-Reltio crosswalk is ignored.

  • Case 3:

When a user updates a value from the Reltio crosswalk, in this case, attribute value is updated but no values are ignored.

This is done with the intention to let the UI entered values survive as OV but may not always happen depending on the survivorship strategies defined for attributes.

Click the Sources icon from a Profile view to view the Sources perspective.

Reltio Platform displays a color coded sources grid, displaying:

  • Attributes
  • Applied Operational Values
  • Winner Source System
  • Rule type
  • Count
  • Attribute values

Attributes

Attributes display the attribute label. Click the Expand all icon to expand all of the attribute Operational Values (such as nested attributes).

Operational Values

Applied Operational Values show the Operational Value for the attribute. The Operational Value is a dynamic value calculated in realtime based on Survivorship Rules and can vary per user role. Click the arrow adjacent to the Operational Value to display nested attributes for the value.

Winner Source System

Winner Source System displays the source system that is the winner based on the applicable rule type. It lists the source system that wins/survives among all the sources systems that contain a value for the attribute.

The winner source system, values in the Attribute values and the crosswalks in the right panel use the same color coding scheme to visually represent the same source system.

Note: For the Aggregation type of rule, the winner source systems are shown in the order of attribute values.

Rule Type

Rule Type displays the Survivorship rule used to determine the Operational Value (OV) for the attribute.

Change the Rule Type for an Operational Value

To change the rule for the Operational Value (OV), click Rule Type. You can select the appropriate rule from the list. For more information on rule types, see Survivorship Rule Types and Attributes configuration.

The following rule types require additional parameters:
  • Frequency
  • Minimum value
  • Maximum value
  • Other Attribute Winner Crosswalk

When you click the Other Attribute Winner Crosswalk rule type, the Select Attribute Winner dialog box appears. This dialog box lists the top-level attributes from the entity type. You can select the attribute that must be the winner crosswalk and the selected attribute is listed in the Rule Type column. The value of the attribute depends upon the source system of the attribute that is specified as the other attribute winner crosswalk.

For a complex attribute like ‘Address’, when you select the rule type as Minimum value, the dialog box shows all the sub-attributes of this complex attribute in a tree structure. You can select the required simple sub-attribute.

Count

Count displays the number of source values for the attribute.

Attribute Values

Attribute values, displays the color coded source values for the attribute. Consult the sources legend tab to view the color associations for each source. Click the arrow adjacent to an attribute value to expand nested attributes.

Click the hyperlinked name of the referenced entity to view the entity Profile.

Pin a Source Value

To override an Operational Value with a source value, hover over the value and click the Pin icon.

Ignore a Source Value

To ignore a source value, click the Ignore icon.

Edit a Source Value

To edit a source value, click the Pencil icon and enter the new value. Expand referenced attributes in order to edit the referenced values.

Sources Legend Tab

The Sources legend tab displays source value information.

The interactive legend diagram provides two modes, Crosswalk Mode and Contributor Mode. The Crosswalk Mode is the more granular and detailed mode. It allows you to hover over individual crosswalks associated with a contributor entity, and understand the attribute values associated with the crosswalk itself. Since a crosswalk represents a specific source system record, each with a unique source system key, this mode lets you understand the values coming from a specific source system record. In this mode, you have the ability to delete a crosswalk and the values it contributes. (The deleted crosswalk is not moved or held anywhere else; it is merely removed from the entity).

Conversely, the Contributor Mode is more macro. A contributor represents a grouping of crosswalks that existed at some point as a single entity in Reltio and which can now be unmerged by clicking on the highlighted contributor. In the Contributor Mode, the individual crosswalks are no longer highlighted. Instead each contributor is highlighted. It allows you to hover over a whole contributor and understand ALL of the values associated with that contributor (which is the sum of all the values associated with the crosswalks brought by that contributor), and provides the insight as to all the values that will be unmerged from the current composite entity if you were to unmerge this contributor. The contributor being unmerged will become a new entity containing only the crosswalks from this contributor. The Entity ID of the newly formed entity will be that of the original entity before it was a contributor in this composite (merged) entity.

In crosswalk mode, the diagram displays crosswalks as vertical colored bands. Newest to oldest crosswalk additions display from left to right. Hover over a crosswalk band to highlight the attribute values associated with that crosswalk.

Unmerge Sources

Reltio Platform groups crosswalks bands into contributor bars. The rightmost contributor bar represents the Profile entity. Bars to the left represent entities merged into the Profile. Hover over the right bar to display merge information.

Click on an adjacent contributor bar to unmerge the Profile.

Source Details

Reltio Platform displays source details for each crosswalk contributor. Click the arrow adjacent to the source name to expand source details.

Hover over a source to highlight attribute values associated with the source. Click the Show more... link to display more details, including referenced sources. Click the Show less... link to hide details.

Expand the source and click the top +Add link to add more source properties, such as delete date.

Add a Source

Click the bottom +Add link to add another source. To add a source, provide a source system name, the ID value, and the source table.

Highlight a Source

Click the Eye icon to persist highlighting the source attribute values.

Delete a Source

Click the Trash Can icon to delete a source from the entity.

Contributor Mode

As mentioned previously, the Contributor Mode allows you to hover over a whole contributor and understand ALL of the values associated with that contributor. If you wish to unmerge an entire contributor by clicking on it, this mode makes it easy to understand all of the values that will be removed from the composite entity by this action.

Click the contributor bar to display options to unmerge or click the Eye icon to highlight only the contributor data in the Profile attributes.
